Shadow of Joy follows camp

Note from Kenya,
"The joy of the Lord has continued to shadow our lives as we take time reflect on the big progress that was accomplished for our Lord in the camps. I am glad that what the children learnt in the camps will; continue to live in them and we hope to see the children live for Christ.

Meanwhile many children and parents continue to give good testimonies about the camps. I have heard of a testimony of a child who has influenced the parents to always pray to God before they go to sleep, something that never used to be in their family. As well parents report of changed behaviors in their youths especially at this time when they are out of school. Thanks to God for all the achievements done; many families will have reasons to thank God for their children lives." ~Pastor Eliazar

Dear Kenya Prayer Team,

I returned safely last night about 6pm from my 8,000 mile "commute to work".  I really enjoy the job of sharing Christ in Kenya.   I struggle to find words to describe God's work that I witnessed. Even though this was my 18th trip to Kenya since 2001, participating in the camp program was a different experience.  It was absolutely amazing to see how God worked in the 3 camps. To see a child, with joy on his face, take off a tattered shirt with holes and put on a new camp t-shirt was one thing I will never forget.  Many have never owned anything that was new. The Kenyan staff worked so well together, even though many of them had never done anything like this before.  What a privilege for me to be able to go and to watch God work out His great master plan.

Your prayers have made all the difference.   I saw so many situations where I could tell that your prayers were the key to unlock the power of God there.  I am still getting an official number from the area camp directors in Kenya, but we are realizing that over 200 trusted Christ on this trip.

I'd like to share a personal story with you.  You prayed for a young girl on the camp staff who's name is Quinter.  She was the only one saved in her family.  God placed a burden in my heart that I should speak with that family about His great love for them.  As I sat in their dimly lit home late one evening on the western end of Mfangano Island, I could sense that their hardened hearts were softening as I shared with them how they could know the peace of having their sins forgiven.  Before the evening concluded, her father, mother and aunt would bow before God and trust Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Her brothers refused to make that decision.  Quinter's mom shared with her later that she was fearful to have the very first white person in her home, but by the end of our visit she knew that Bobby was a friend of this family through Christ.  Thank you for your prayers for this family.  Quinter is pictured in the camp staff photo next to me with a hat.  Also pictured is her mother receiving her very first Bible.  Quinter could not put into words the joy she was feeling that evening.  Thank you for praying.

There is so much more I could share with you that time will not allow.  I look forward to sharing more at our One Year Anniversary Dinner for Interlocking Ministries on January 15.  (Watch for the invitation.  Save the date on your calendar if you can come!)  But know we will one day have all eternity to share these stories and victories together.  Thank you so much for your partnering with Interlocking Ministries and enabling us to share the good news of the Gospel with those that have never heard.

I hope you have a Blessed Christmas!

Three Camps!

The camp sessions have begun!  Bobby called and said that he had that same feeling that he would get at New Life Camp on registration day. There is a lot of excitement and anticipation of what God will do this week.

They sent a boat around the island picking up kids.  Just to let you know how big the island is, it takes about an hour and a half to get around the island on those boats.   They have nearly 200 kids attending the camps.  Each camp is hosting a different age group.  The kids will sleep in the school buildings that are rented for the camps.

Praise the Lord for the 4 people who were saved during worship service on Sunday!
Please pray for the camp teachers and support staff as they run three different camp sessions in the rented school buildings.
Pray for the precious children who are attending camp this week, that God would meet them at their need and that they would grow in faith.
Pray for Bobby as he travels back and forth to the three camps, teaching.
Pray for wisdom, unity, patience, grace, and endurance.

Enjoy the pictures of Camp workers & Teacher training that were sent by email!

Thank you for joining me in prayer,

God blessed the hostess & husband

God blessed the hostess and her husband. Read:

"Our Sunday service at Makira was powerful. The servant of God had a great message for Makira church and we saw 4 people accept the Lord in their lives at the end of the sharing. We later moved to the house of one of the ladies in the church who decided to host the servants of God for a lunch in her house. After all the good care she did to us, her

husband who joined us as we continued with our lunches had the chance to hear about salvation from Bobby. Thank God that the husband who was never a believer as well fully surrendered his life to the Lord. This lady did not know that God would use her heart of welcome to reach her husband with message of salvation. They are now a couple living for the Lord, pray that they will continue to grow strong in the Lord." ~Eliazar Wambo, pastor at Makira

41 Saved on Monday

Thank you for continuing to remember Bobby and the team in your prayers.  Please continue to pray for the staff training week for the three camps this week.  There is also a lot of discussion about future ministry with the leaders in Kenya.  Please pray for God to guide them with much wisdom.

There is great news about the trip to Kikubi.  They saw 41 people turn their lives over to live for Jesus.  One of them was the widow of Sausi (we had thought his name was Tausi, but were mistaken.).  Sausi was the man who drowned just days after Bobby preached in September. Sausi had decided to follow Christ.  Now his wife, a widow, has made that decision. Praise the Lord!

I have enclosed a photo of the widow with her children.  Bobby said there were seven children.  I think one might be on the mom's lap, but behind the kid in the orange shirt. This is the widow of Sausi who drowned in September.  His wife's name is Susan.  Susan heard Bobby share the Gospel on Monday and prayed to receive Christ.    Bobby presented the family with a photo of their father.  The kids said "Baba" which means Father.  Bobby said that this was such a wonderful day.   (For those of you who aren't used to seeing Kenyans, the girls often have their hair very short as well as the boys.  It is easier to care for.)

Some people ask about how we help the needy.  There are many widows, orphans, HIV patients, etc.  We can't help everyone, but we are seeking God's will as we minister there.  There is a book that helps us think through these things.  It's called "When Helping Hurts".  It helps us to think about ways to help people without hurting them in the long run.  Charity is not always the answer.  We know that giving them spiritual hope is the one thing we can offer freely to everyone.  Here's one thing they do when we have mission teams there.  They employ mainly widows to assist with cleaning & cooking for the team.  This is a good way for them to earn money to provide for themselves and their children.  Many of the teachers are also widows.

“[Jesus the Good Shepherd] Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:7, 9-10

Prayer request for trip

Dear Kenya Prayer Team,

Thank you for all of you that participated in our Christmas tree fundraiser for Interlocking Ministries.  It was a great success, and we're already looking forward to doing it again next year.

I know this is a busy time of year with Christmas just a few weeks away, but would you take a few moments to pray for me as I travel to Kenya tomorrow morning, Wednesday the 28th?  I am so excited to be able to participate in 3 camps to share the gospel and disciple over 300 children.  This is a tremendous opportunity to influence this next generation for Christ and we must take advantage of it.  God is working in the nation of Kenya, with thousands coming to Christ and growing in their faith every year.  Thank you for your participation with prayers and financial support to reach this influential country in East Africa.  I'm sure Page will want to send you a few updates while I'm gone.  Thank you for standing with us in this way.  Trips like this don't "just happen".  This is a team effort.  Lord willing, I'll be home before Christmas, December 20th.   May God bless you this time of year.

In His Service,

Bobby Johnson

Christmas trees!

The ministry is selling perfectly fresh Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands this year.  If you are going to buy, you might as well support a ministry, yes?  We are taking orders November 1-15.

We will get them from the NC mountains ourselves at Thanksgiving and can deliver locally or you pick up on Saturday or the following Monday (your choice). They are USDA grade A. We have been to the farm and the best way to describe them is the "perfect" tree. There are variety of sizes. The prices are amazing and determined by the size that you choose. The trees start at $35 and wreaths at $15. We are in the north Raleigh area.  Delivery is Saturday after Thanksgiving as well as that next Monday. We are not having a typical "lot" because we want to get the trees to you FRESH! Download the order form here:.https://www.dropbox.com/s/gupii9r1n0w39is/Christmas%20trees%20%28delivery%29.pdf

Your purchase will help Interlocking Ministries!

Thanks for your interest about getting FRESH Christmas trees and greenery in the Raleigh area! I have seen the tree farm... you won't be sorry. :)

We would also love some help selling.  If you would like to be an "elf" for us, you can ask your neighborhood for orders, your kid's school and friends.  (Just print more of the forms to carry around with you.) We hope to find a neighborhood or two that will buy lots of wreaths for their entrance, etc.  But hurry, we only have two weeks!

Yes, I am pretty excited!

~Page Johnson

PS.  You will see on the form that there is a "Spike Tree Stand".  This stand has a spike in the middle, and our pre-drilled trees will stand upright in it securely!  It holds a gallon of water too!

Tausi's day of decision, just in time

I am home in America. I want to thank each of you who prayed for me on this last trip to Kenya. I don't take it lightly when asking God's people to pray. Because of the teachers strike, I was unable to visit the public schools. I realize
that God had a different plan. I know that there is an urgency to sharing the Gospel, and God showed me that His timing is perfect.

In the picture enclosed, the man to my left who is wearing glasses is named Tausi Oguma. He came forward after Friday's open air meeting in Gwasi and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. On the following Monday he was drowned in a boating accident on Lake Victoria. I am so glad I went to Kenya and shared the Gospel in his town. I'm sure that he must be glad now. I'll look forward to sharing more with you about this trip in the days ahead. Thank you again for your investment of time in prayer. You are part of this team.

Overnight in Gwassi

There were 60 salvations from yesterday's mission to Takawiri Island.  Praise the Lord.  The message was well received.  Pray for the pastors as they follow up and disciple these new believers.

There are around 30 Kenyans traveling with Bobby to the mainland today.  They are going to Gwassi.  Bobby will give an evangelistic meeting at the beach and then travel further inland to speak at a church revival.  The team will sleep in tents and head back to Mfangano the next day.  Sounds like quite an adventure.  :)

Please pray for them as they have a lot of traveling to do.
Pray aslo for their safety as they sleep in the tents.
Pray that their hearts would be yielded to the Holy Spirits leading.

Thanks for joining me in prayer.

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 NKJV

Bobby on Kenyan Radio

Surprising story: Bobby told me that a man from an FM radio station was at the public evangelism meeting at Makira on Sunday. He recorded Bobby's message and played it on the radio sometime later.  A pastor in Gwassi heard it and told Bobby yesterday. Wow, you never know how far the message of the Gospel will reach!

There was an encouraging meeting at Lakeside Lampstand Christian school yesterday.  The evangelism meeting in Kitenyi was cancelled due to many of the residents involved in a Health Care Meeting, but Bobby had some good meetings with the believers.  The team leaders made some more specific plans about their trip to Gwassi for Friday.  This will be a long trip and they plan to stay there overnight in tents.

Today the team will visit the neighbor island of Takawiri.  There will be one evangelistic meeting at the east beach and another in the afternoon on the west beach.  Bobby has been in these areas to preach before, and they welcome him back.

Praise God that Bobby's schedule eased a little yesterday, Pray for him to have good strength and health for the days ahead.
Pray for good weather for the boat travel.
Pray that hearts will be yielded to God in a havest for Him.
Pray for great moments of discipleship with the team members and other believers.

Thanks for joining me in prayer,
~Page

That many will be summoned as Jacob and Israel were:
"But now, this is what the LORD says — he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine ... Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, '" Isaiah 43:1, 4 (NIV)

Missionary Speakers

We were at Ponderosa Bible Camp in Alabama last week.  We were the missionary speakers.  It was a real blessing to be there and have a ministry with the kids and staff.  We had a great week with the kids telling them about what it means to be a missionary. We sang "Everybody Needs Jesus" song! We told them what God is doing through Interlocking Ministries in Kenya, Africa. We showed pictures and videos about Kenya ministry.  We made a Kenyan snack of Mandazis.   We were really excited that God led one boy to say at campfire that he was committing to being a missionary!

Bucket List

June trip report

Dear Prayer Partners,

As I now look back over this past trip it was so busy my mind is just now catching up on all that we saw God do.  We asked you to pray that God would ready the hearts of the Kenyan people to receive the Gospel message.  Those prayers were answered far beyond what we could have imagined.

Tamara's story of Esther drew much enthusiasm because the Kenyan orphans could relate to orphan-Esther being used by God.  We saw more commitments to Christ than any other trip.  I hesitate to give you numbers, but it is a testimony to the truth of Matthew 9:37 when Jesus said, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.  Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."  Also, in the book of Acts, it records the numbers of those added to the believers. (Acts 2:41) Will you praise God with us for adding 1,242 souls to His Kingdom?  There were also 1,340 decisions for sexual purity after hearing the teaching of "True Love Waits" from Page.  (see attached picture of those standing) We also asked you to pray for God to take care of the details of this trip.  There were very few unexpected difficulties on this trip, for which we praise Him. He faithfully walked with us through those few issues and kept us in perfect peace.

This trip would not have had this kind of outcome had it not been for the prayers of God's people.  Some of you told us you were praying for us on your way to work each day.  That would be when we were busy in afternoon ministry.  Would you please continue to pray.  We have come home to America and left the pastors and teachers with an enormous job of feeding, helping and discipling all these new baby Christians.

I want to leave you with a challenge.  Many of you have given financially to make these trips possible, and for that we thank you.  We would love to have you join us on a future trip.  We believe that there is more fruit for harvest.  If God would lead you in this direction, we need your help. Upcoming trips are September, December and February 2013.  Mission Trips (click for application) Traveling to Africa may just have as big an impact on you as it will on the people there.  You can get a healthy dose of perspective.  The Kenyans need to hear from you and you need to hear from them.  Thank you again for your interest in Interlocking Ministries and the difference that it is making for the Kingdom of God.

Home stretch

Jesus prayed:  “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.  I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me."  John 17:20-21

Please continue to pray for Kenya.  The Hocutt Church team is flying back home now.  Bobby, Walt and Will have done one more pastor's conference and is now at Mombasa.  As I write this, it is Friday morning for them.  They will stay in Mombasa for Friday night and head to the Nairobi airport on Saturday.

Pray for Hocutt team's travels home.
Pray for God led appointments to be recognized.
Pray for some good rest for Walt, Will, and Bobby as they discuss the results of this trip and prepare for the flight home Saturday through Sunday. (Yes, it's about a 24 hour trip.)

Prayer request

Good news:  There were 56 salvations on Thursday's adventure and 11 saved on Friday's trip.  Two of the areas visited were new places.  A revisit to one of the schools resulted in 6 teachers saved.  Nice, right?

Next on the schedule:
·     Remba beach open air evangelistic meeting.  This is an island that Bobby has visited twice before.  It is a place for fishermen, transients, drug addicts and prostitutes.  Both previous visits have yielded results.  Last September the two beach leaders (akin to Mayor) received Christ.

·    Joint church service (both Mauta and Wakinga Baptist) and the community at Wakinga Baptist Church. The boat will then take Bobby back to Mbita for journey to Lwanda Kotieno.

Please pray for a good boat trip to Remba and for the Lord to reach out to the hearts of the people and let them know His love through Jesus.

Pray for Bobby as he prepares for the church service Sunday.  Pray for the continuation of unity in the community.  Pray for the people to overflow with love for one another.

36" When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
~Matthew 9:36-38

Sunday's prayer

Thank you for following the blog.  I will try to keep you updated on the activities in Kenya as I hear from them.  I will also give you some specific prayer requests daily.

Bobby will travel with a guide to Mfangano Island and the rest of the team will go to the Masai area near Nairobi.  The team consists of :  Will Gatling, Walter Haskins, Bobby Johnson, Steve and Joanne Roy (Hocutt Baptist Church, Clayton), Betsy Vaughn, Wayne Harrifield, Betsy Green, Vanessa Gude, Carrie Nixon, and Barbara Provis.

Please pray for their safe travels as they left Sunday.  Pray that their luggage arrives safely and they clear customs easily.
They will arrive in Kenya on Monday and sleep.  After around a 24 hour travel time, that's what is on their minds... sleep.
Pray for a good rest their first night and safe travels for Bobby as he begins the second leg of the journey to Mfangano Island.  He will travel by van and then boat.  It will take the whole day to travel.  Pray for safety on the roads and for all the people connections that he needs to make along the way.
Pray for clear minds and easy adjustments to the culture (especially for any new team members)
Pray for good health, safe food to eat and good relationship building with the local pastors and church members.

1 Chronicles 28:20 “And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.”

thank you,

Prayer Request

Dear Kenya Prayer team,

"How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" Romans 10:14

Bobby is going to Kenya on Sunday.  He is traveling with Bay Leaf Baptist Church team.  After arriving and staying a night in Nairobi, he will head to the island of Mfangano by van and boat ride.  He plans to stay on the island for six days of ministry and then travel to Kisumu to meet up with other Bay Leaf team members for ministry in that area.

We are pleased that God led someone to give $500 for Bibles.  Many have been involved in supporting Bobby's trip to Kenya.  We are very grateful that people have chosen to get involved in the mission in this way.  We are NOW needing a prayer team.  We want God to work in the hearts of men and women.  Bobby's messages will fall flat without the work of the Holy Spirit.

“So today when I came to the spring, I prayed this prayer: ‘O LORD, God of my master, Abraham, please give me success on this mission."  Genesis 24:42

We ask that you join us in prayers.  Pray that God will work through Bobby as he completes the preparation of his messages and that the Kenyans will be moved by the Holy Spirit to come to salvation.
We pray for the Kenyan Christians to be filled with love and the fruit of the Spirit.
We also ask that you pray for the leaders in the church and ministries there.  There is some division that we have heard about in the community.  Bobby will be addressing it and promoting unity.  Please pray for this unity because it is what Christ desires.

I plan to post other prayer requests out through the time that Bobby is there.  I hope to have some updates from him that I can share with you as well.  Check this blog again for updates.

Thank you for your interest in the ministry in Kenya.  God is moving!

God bless you all for your involvement through prayer.

Sincerely,
Page (for Bobby too)
