Hens and Widows

Page Johnson is teaching the veterinarian Tobias and pastor Eliazar about chickens. Caring for laying hens is a good way for the widows of the church to employ themselves and provide for their children. Interlocking Ministries gave a grant for them to start a poultry project with 100 chicks in July. They decided to plant a garden nearby as well. The chickens should lay their eggs any day now!

Pray for Children's Bible Camps, Kenya

Will you pray for the students that are signing up for December Children's Bible Camps, Kenya? Will you pray for the team that will be teaching there?

Public Professions

During the last trip we had 1,248 people who stood and publicly professed that they were receiving Christ. Would you praise God with us? Yes, we were the messengers, you were the prayers, some were givers, but it is only God who can call a heart to Him. Enjoy the photo that gives some faces to that number. Pray for them as they grow spiritually.

Marriage Conference: Well Received

We felt lead to conduct the first ever marriage conference in September for the Kenyan couples.  We were a little apprehensive about teaching this because, African culture is different from American in regards to marriage.  We knew God was with us because of the prayers from many of you.  The conference, with almost 100 in attendance, went so much better the we ever expected.  They enjoyed teaching on Biblical marriage, the needs of a spouse, finance, handling conflict, family planning, etc.   The Kenyan pastors opened for Q&A many times and the discussion was lively!  We could see a real difference in the couples that attended and could hear them discussing it daily for the next week.  They are already planning on us conducting another conference next year.

Next mission trip is coming up December 1st to host the camps for 800 kids.  We need prayer for Bobby’s preparations and those that will travel with them.  Your donations to Interlocking Ministries will support the evangelism and discipleship needed in Kenya.  Thank you for being generous!

Hope for Kenya

God Loves, We Love
While the main goal of Interlocking Ministries remains to alleviate spiritual poverty in Kenya with evangelism and discipleship, we can not deny the need to assist with physical needs as we have funds available.  With these funds, we give hope and opportunity, not just money.

“But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?” 1 John 3:17

Women’s Baking Class
The women’s baking class was sponsored by Interlocking Ministries.  The women, most of them widows, did not know how to bake.  They only knew basic cooking.  Chef Jerimiah teaches them how to make chapati (flat bread) and mandazi (fried dough).  These can be made for their families, but also sold in the market if the women need to earn some money for their families.

Poultry Project Makira
Working widow, Judith, is the chairperson of the group of about 30 widows in Makira. Makira has the most oppressed widows that we have seen and we are partnering with the new church there.  She is happy to report to her “office” to care for the chicks dressed in a lab coat. These 100 chicks bring hope to this group of widows. There is a hope of provision for them and their children, self worth, and a future. They thank God and Interlocking Ministries for the financial grant and the opportunity to put their hands to good use. This is their business and they are learning how to use some of the income to reinvest in the business. May God bless them and the chicks.

Educational Scholarship
At Interlocking Ministries we believe that God would have us to do more to help our Kenyan brothers and sisters in a physical way.  There is a saying that goes like this, "you can give without loving, but you can't love without giving."  We have started an educational scholarship program among 35 schools in Kenya.  280 children each year will be selected for academic performance and receive some assistance.  Keep in mind that for the price of a gourmet coffee latte in America, a child in Kenya can pay school fees for three months.  This program will also help bring awareness through the schools of Interlocking Ministries and the message of Christ.  We would love for you or your school to partner with us in this program.

God has continued to work in Kenya in a greater way with each passing year since we started going in 2001.  Each trip brings hundreds who come to know Christ and hundreds more making a commitment to follow Him with sexual purity.  This is beginning to have a profound impact on the Lake Victoria region of western Kenya.  I'm looking forward to the day that we will plant a Christian flag on the highest mountain on Mfangano Island and claim this land for Christ.

Please continue in prayer for the Kenya team (Bobby, Page, Tamara, Ron & Edna) departing September 14th.

August News

September Mission:
Tamara's story of Esther last June drew much enthusiasm because the Kenyan orphans could relate to orphan-Esther being used by God.  We look forward to having her join the September trip along with Bobby & Page Johnson and newcomers, Ron & Edna Kennedy.

We plan to visit schools and communities with the Gospel and discipleship messages.  We also plan to host our first marriage conference.

December Mission:
Bobby will plan the December trip along side of Kenyan pastors. Possibly 800 children will attend the December camp.  We have a few people praying about God’s plan for them to travel with Bobby on this mission.  Please pray for those that the Lord would desire on the mission.

End of July trip report

July 12:
As I sit here in the Nairobi airport waiting to fly back to America, I look at some local news on my laptop from Raleigh, NC.  Then it dawns on me it's mid July, and a month of my life is gone since I left home.  But wow, we have seen so much gained for eternity in this last month.  Results we have seen include 983 professing Christ as Savior and 577 committing to sexual purity through the True Love Waits program, as well as programs started for some 30 widows that now have a hope for the future.

God is amazing.  I see the ministry in the Lake Victoria region of western Kenya like a snowball rolling down a mountain. God is bringing many souls to Himself that He planned long ago.  This last month of my life has not been wasted.  It it a privilege and a blessing to be used by God in this way.  I leave Kenya with mixed emotions. I'm leaving so many people that I love so dearly.  But I'm going home to some others that I also love so dearly and look forward to sharing God's work with churches and small groups.

What's the vision?  I'm not stopping with what I've have seen accomplished.  Our September trip is not far away as we will disciple the followers and conduct a marriage conference for hundreds that are planning to attend.  Then comes the December trip when possibly 800 children will attend camp.  God is blessing Interlocking Ministries because this was His plan set in motion long ago, and now is the time for these people to discover Christ and His plan for them.

God is doing so much more through this ministry than I ever expected.  Thank you each of you for your part.  Ephesians 3:20

Middle of the June/July trip

From Bobby by email:
"These are the teachers from Kakrigu. (See first group photo.) After I taught a Bible story I debated about teaching True Love Waits because most of the students were quite young with just a few older ones. But I felt led to teach it anyway. At the end I asked for commitments and some students stood, but also the two teachers to my left stood. These two ladies were not married. After the pledge they stood and gave testimony about how powerful the TLW club is in front of the school. They copied down my TLW notes as fast as they could until I left there. We will see that they get their own copy later. We praise God for their excitment for the program. It was worth the walk to that school just for that."

"Second picture is of a boy also at Kakrigu. This boy with the torn pink shirt stood and gave testimony about how good God is. He was the worst dressed in the school, but the best attitude inside. Wow!!! I wonder if people in America could give a testimony like that if they had as little as him.

If that doesn't bless you enough, you need to see this last photo. "Andrew  is praying with a lady that wanted to commit to TLW after hearing his purity testimony. She accepted Christ about 15 minutes before this photo. She served lunch to us today."

Please continue to lift up this team in prayers: Bobby, Scott and Andrew: may the Lord continue to pour out his strength, his wisdom, discernment and truth.
Pray for the visit to Wami Primary school and Wami beach open air service.  Pray for hearts to be soft toward God and His plan for them.
Pray for the boat trip to Takawiri beach and the open air service.
Pray for the chicks that may be delivered during this weekend sometime for the widow poultry project.

Thank you for joining me in prayer,
~Page

Widow Hope

Where's hope? Struggling with HIV, widowed, and sexually abused as she tries to work to feed herself and child. Interlocking Ministries has begun group meetings with this lady and others like her to pray with her, give job training and encouragement. There's HOPE.

What cost $10.82?

What cost $10.82?
In calculating the March 2013 mission trip costs, we figured that it cost Interlocking Ministries $10.82 per person professing to receive Christ during that trip! Thank you to those who have donated to Interlocking Ministries! That’s value! That’s God’s work in the hearts of people... because she’s worth it!

Donate now if God is leading you:  http://www.interlockingministries.org/Donate.html

No one can "buy " salvation, but how can they hear unless someone tells them? How can someone tell them unless they go?  Can you donate to Interlocking Ministries?

If you buy a kid some shoes...

If you donate a few shoes to kids that can't afford shoes, it's nice, it makes the donor feel good and the kids happy. When you donate a LARGE box of shoes to the community, you put a shoe salesman out of business! This man is eeking out his living selling used shoes on a blanket. He has to feed his family too. Makes you think... yes? This is why we, at Interlocking Ministries, strive to find the balance between relief assistance, rehabilitation and development.

Christian Youth Brings Bobby to Give Gospel to Unsaved Family

Wanzala worked on our camp staff last December. She is pictured in front with the flowered skirt. This past March she asked if we could share the Gospel with her family. Her whole family accepted Christ. Her father, was the leader of a cult church on the island. He is pictured in back with a hat. He is now so excited because he now gets to go back to that false religion and share with them he has found the truth!

Love the children of Lake Victoria, Kenya

Jesus Loves the Little Children

March Trip Was Answer to Prayer

Successful March Mission:
God answered our prayers in a great way!  I hope that I never cease to be amazed at the way God answers prayers.  There is a momentum of fruitful evangelism in Kenya.  The believers there have been praying about this for many years.  This is the second trip for Interlocking Ministries in less than a year to yield over one thousand salvations.

Discipleship: Pray for Kenyan pastors and teachers as they have a huge task of following up with these new believers.  This follow up is crucial.  A pastor / teacher conference was held on Saturday with over 80 in attendance. This was the largest we have ever held on the island. With some coming from other islands and the mainland of Kenya.  My US team was a great help in teaching these leaders who will, in turn, take this Biblical training to disciple their churches and schools.

Camp: The news of the December camp is spreading like wildfire.  In the last two years. the number has grown by four times.  So we are looking at over 800 in attendance this December.  If you would like to help finance the camp program, you may like to know that it will cost Interlocking Ministries $25 per child in attendance.  (Realize that the average wage in Kenya is a dollar a day.)

Widows: We have a burden to help some of the widows on the island that are most vulnerable. We will tell you more in the next newsletter about their situation and why it is so important.

I just finished reading all the emails that many of you sent back to Page during this trip.  It blessed my heart to see how many of you are standing behind this ministry in prayer.  Thank you!  I had no idea God would grow Interlocking Ministries to this point in just 15 months.  God is amazing.  May God bless you for your involvement in this ministry.

March trip

Prayer Requests...

I am headed to Kenya for the first of four trips this year.  Thursday is the day I plan to fly out.  I would humbly ask once again that you stand with me in prayer for this trip.  God is going before us as we can already see the work He has laid out for us to do.  We plan to visit schools to share the Gospel and promote the December "summer" camps.  Kenya is open to the Gospel and hungering for the Word of God.  We don't how much time is left to share the good news of Jesus in Kenya at the rate our world is changing.

Pray for safe travel and good weather for Thursday.
Would you please pray for Amy, David and Scott that will join me on this trip a week later. Two of them have never been to Africa!
Pray for a peaceful presidential election in Kenya on March 4th.  Thank you so much for standing with this ministry prayerfully and financially.
Pray for God to reach others to come to Kenya (June, September, December) 2013

Thank you so much,
Bobby Johnson

Power Given To The Church

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-42

Focus Verse: Acts 2:36  "So let it be clearly known by everyone in Israel that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified to be both Lord and Messiah".

As we finish this series of devotions on "Christian Community" we want to look at the power that God is giving to the church.  I have traveled to areas and have seen the affects by natural disasters like hurricanes.  It is amazing to see what the power of the wind can do, and the damage it can inflict.  To be able to blow down houses and uproot very large trees.  But I have also seen how the power of such an event can bring people together in a new way.  Distress brought out the best in some of these victims of the storm.  People began caring for neighbors whom days before would not even speak to each other.

The first-century church also experienced an incredible supernatural force.  Our passage also describes this as a powerful wind that brought people together in a new way.  But this time it was not a destructing wind.  They stood in one accord and the Holy Spirit empowered the Christian Community to change the world for Christ by sharing the Gospel.  Everyone heard the Gospel in their own language by the power of God.  Are you allowing this same power that God offers to work in your life to unite the Body of Christ and change your community for Him?

Camp testimonies

The teachers of the camp in Kenya read letters of testimonies from the children who attended.  Please enjoy the blessings of hearing God be praised!
